Women’s Tennis Opens CCIW Play Against Augustana

First of four home matches for IWU

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team opens College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play Saturday, Sept. 12, against Augustana College. First serve from Evergreen Racquet Club is scheduled for 2 p.m.

IWU (1-1) is coming off of a tough loss at Illinois College. In doubles, the Lady Blues narrowly claimed the point. IC won on court one and IWU earned a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles from sophomores Elana Religioso (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet Seymour) and Adia Douglas (Flossmoor, Ill.-Homewood-Flossmoor). The Lady Blues secured the point on court two, winning 7-6 with a 17-15 score in the tiebreaker.

In singles, the Titans collected wins from Douglas as well as seniors Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington). However, the Lady Blues won two of their three singles matches in the third-set super tiebreakers to propel them ahead.

Augustana enters Saturday at 0-1, falling to UW-Whitewater 6-1, Friday, Sept. 4. The Vikings also finished seventh at the UW-Whitewater Invitational, Saturday, Sept. 5. 

The Vikings lead the all-time series 25-10, including wins in the last 14 matches. Last season, Augie edged IWU, 4-3. For the Titans, Bell collected a singles win as well as a doubles victory with Ehrlich. Religioso and Douglas also secured singles victories.
