Women’s Tennis Sets Sights on Two-Match Weekend

IWU visits Wheaton Friday & Elmhurst Saturday

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team heads to the western suburbs for a pair of matches beginning at the reigning College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin champions, Wheaton College, Friday, Oct. 2 at 4:30 p.m. They conclude the trip at Elmhurst University, Saturday, Oct. 3 at 9 a.m. 

The Titans (3-3, 2-2 CCIW) are coming off of a big win at North Central College, Tuesday, Sept. 29, their first against the Cardinals since 2017. After dropping the first set, 7-6 (4), senior Olivia Bell (Bloomington, Ill.-Bloomington) dominated the next two sets, securing a 7-6, 6-1, 6-1 win and a 4-3 victory. IWU won the doubles point before coming back from down 2-1 with singles wins from senior Amber Ehrlich (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood), sophomore, Adia Douglas (Flossmoor, Ill.-Homewood-Flossmoor), and Bell. The victory boosted IWU to fourth place in the CCIW.

Wheaton leads the conference with a 5-0 mark (4-0 CCIW). They most recently took down Carthage College, 4-3, Wednesday, Sept. 30 to remain perfect. Wheaton holds a perfect record over the Green and White, winning the last 25 matches. Last season, the Thunder won 5-2. IWU collected wins from then-freshman Elana Religioso (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet-Seymour) at No. 5 singles and Gabi Lipske on court two. 

Elmhurst has yet to compete this year. Last season, the Blue Jays finished 0-10 (0-5 CCIW) Last season, the Titans blanked the Blue Jays, 7-0, winning every match in straight sets. 

First serve from Wheaton is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Action in Elmhurst begins at 9 a.m. Results will be available on iwusports.com at the conclusion of the match.
