Dyer and Giller Earn NWCA Scholar All-American Honors

First IWU women’s wrestlers to earn award

MANHEIM, Pa.- Freshmen Simone Dyer (Chicago, Ill.-Whitney M. Young) and Jillian Giller (Wilmette, Ill.-New Trier) of the Illinois Wesleyan University women's wrestling team were named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American list, released Friday, March 13. Dyer and Giller are the first IWU women's wrestlers to be named to this list.

"Simone and Jillian represent what we strive for in our program at Illinois Wesleyan, commitment in the classroom, discipline on the mat, and leadership within our team," Director of Wrestling Adam Richards said. "Being named NWCA Academic All-Americans is a tremendous honor, and it reflects the hard work they've put in every single day in all phases of their lives. I'm incredibly proud of both of them for setting the standard for what it means to be a true student-athlete at IWU."

Dyer, who majors in mathematics and data science, recorded a technical fall and two decisions in her inaugural campaign.

Giller, a finance major earned all-conference honors at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin meet, finishing second at 145 pounds. Giller recorded ten pins with one technical fall and two decisions in her freshman season. She also placed at four different tournaments.
