ADDISON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's bowling team finished its first tournament of the new year Saturday-Sunday, Jan. 18-19. The bowlers competed at Stardust Lanes in Addison, Ill. and placed 39th overall as a team. 

Junior Kiera Hendersen (Silvis, Ill.-United Township) finished 110th overall individually, with her first game being the highest of the day with a pinfall of 206. After five games, Hendersen finished with a total of 853. Emily Newbauer of Vertibo finished first in the women's bracket with a score of 1114. 

Following Hendersen was freshman Neveah Porter (Appleton, Wis.-Appleton West), who finished 219th overall in the competition. Porter ended the day with a total pinfall of 526 and finished with a game high of 112. Fellow freshman Sapphire Bankston-Hunter (North Chicago, Ill.-Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart) was not far behind taking 228th place. Bankston-Hunter totaled a 509 with a game high of 121 in her third game. 

Through five games, sophomore Joanna Steven (Chicago, Ill.-Kings College Prep) bowled a 484, and in her fourth game, finished with a pinfall of 123, which is a personal best for the sophomore.

Sophomore Bella Horvath (Glenview, Ill.-New Trier) rounded out the five competing at the tournament and placed 251st. Horvath's total pinfall was 396th with a game high of 92. 

Sunday saw the five compete in a 16 baker match. Through the 16 matches, the Titans saw a total of 4519, good for 39th place overall. Mount Mercy University took first place in the tournament gathering 8003 pins. 

Women's Bowling will be back in action Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 15-16, at the Viking Classic in Milan, Ill.
