Wrestling Prepares for Harper Open

Competition in Palatine, Ill. set for 9 a.m.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – With its first meet of 2024 canceled due to a winter storm, the Illinois Wesleyan University men's wrestling team is readying for the Harper College Open, Saturday, Jan. 20. Opening bouts are slated for a 9 a.m. start time in Palatine, Ill. 

Illinois Wesleyan returns to the mats for the first time since Dec. 9 when six Titans competed at the 59th Annual North Central College Invitational, Dec. 9. Freshman Austin Johnston (Normal, Ill.-Normal West) and junior Bobby Conroy (St. Louis, Mo.-St. Louis University High) have so far led the Green and White, holding season records of 7-6 and 6-4, respectively. 

Looking to compete most of its squad, IWU will join 14 other teams in Palatine on Saturday. College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's Carthage College, Elmhurst University, and North Central College are expected to be in attendance. North Central is ranked third in Division III tournament rankings according to the National Wrestling Coaches Association's latest installment, Jan. 12. No. 15 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater will also compete in the Harper Open.
