USTFCCCA Release

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Three Illinois Wesleyan University Titans were recognized by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as All-Academic Individuals for the 2023 season while both the men's and women's track and field programs earned All-Academic Team honors, the USTFCCCA announced Thursday, July 13.

Freshman Seth Hamerski (Mount Vernon, Ill.-Webber) represents the men's program while freshman Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) and junior Lauren Wong (Morton, Ill.-Morton) garnered the accolade on the women's team. The men's program compiled a 3.197 cumulative GPA while the women notched a 3.525 to each be named All-Academic Teams. Programs must meet the minimum 3.1 GPA to be eligible for the award.

To be eligible for the individual All-Academic Award, student-athletes must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.30. Additionally, student-athletes must have competed for the NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championships or been one of the top 50 individuals or top 35 relays in their respective events.

Hamerski, an economics major, picks up the All-Academic honor after a freshman campaign that earned him two All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin indoor honors as a crucial member of the 4-by-400-meter and distance medley relay. The 4x400m relay finished as runner-up, while the DMR finished third at the CCIW Indoor Championships in February.

Crabtree, an environmental studies major, became the first Titan freshman since 2019 to compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships where she turned in a 16th-place finish overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. With her conference title in the steeplechase and All-CCIW effort in the 1,500-meter, Crabtree was named the CCIW Women's First-Year Student-Athlete of the Meet for the outdoor conference championships. As a first-year, Crabtree has accrued five All-CCIW honors, a USTFCCCA All-Region nod, and holds the school record in the steeplechase (10:43.33).

Wong, a finance major, continues to reign in awards following her impressive junior season where she finished 11th in the triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. This marks Wong's second season earning the USTFCCCA All-Academic award after first picking up the honor in 2021. The indoor and outdoor conference champion in the triple jump – who also won the long jump title outdoors – received All-Region honors earlier this year for her efforts in the horizontal jumps. Wong earned her second-consecutive Academic All-CCIW award this season and was named a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree before adding All-Academic to her resume.

Illinois Wesleyan is one of seven CCIW member institutions to have both men's and women's track and field programs be named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams.
