Track and Field Readies for Final Push at Augustana Midwest Twilight

Titans look to improve marks in hopes of solidifying NCAA Qualifiers

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's and women's track and field teams will send nine members to compete at the Augustana College Midwest Twilight Thursday, Amy 18. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. in the Austin E. Knowlton Outdoor Athletics Complex.

On the men's side, senior Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) will compete in the 200 meter dash. He will need to crack a time of 21.31 to break into the qualifiers for the event. 

Schumacher will team up with freshmen Evan Lowder (Bloomington, Ill.-Normal Community) and Joel Weber (Roanoke, Ill.-Roanoke-Benson), and sophomore Ernie Waterson (Bloomington, Ill.-Cornerstone Christian Academy) to compete in the 4x400 relay. The relay squad looks to break the 3:14.19 mark, entering with a best time of 3:19.57. 

Waterson will also race in the 800 meter run. He looks to break the 1:50.81 mark, with his personal best time currently clocked at 1:53.11. 

Senior Christian Gatsos (Brookfield, Ill.-Lyons Township) and freshman Isaac Whitaker (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) look to improve their marks in the pole vault. The duo will need to clear at least 4.85 meters. Gatsos enters with a best mark of 4.68 meters, while Whitaker has cleared 4.58 meters. 

Sophomore Alex Harvey (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) rounds out the men's side, as he looks to improve his time in the 400 meter race. The sophomore will need to turn in a time of 47.57 to crack the current top-22, entering with a best time of 51.06. 

The women's team will see freshman Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) race in the 3,000 steeplechase, and junior Lauren Wong (Morton, Ill.-Morton) looks to book her ticket to the NCAA Championships in the triple jump with a solidifying jump. Wong currently sits 14th in the nation with a triple jump mark of 11.98. Crabtree, the reigning CCIW Champion in the 3,000 steeplechase, looks to break a time of 10:54.47. Her current best time of 10:59.19 sits her at 28th nationally. 

The top-22 nationally in each event will secure a spot at the NCAA Championship, taking place in New York, May 24-26.
