Softball Sees Five Named to CSC Academic All-District Squad

Titans advance to ballot for Academic All-America

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University softball team saw five student-athletes recognized as part of the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District softball team Tuesday, May 16. Seniors Madison Moore (Verona, Wis.-Edgewood) and Natalie Grubczak (Medinah, Ill.-Grubczak), juniors Maya Black (Springfield, Ill.-Glenwood) and Bailey Turner (Normal, Ill.-Normal West), and sophomore Jen Kuhn (Normal, Ill.-University High) reeled in the honor and will advance to the Academic All-America ballot.

Moore, the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Co-Hitter of the Year, was a First Team All-CCIW pick in centerfield. The Verona, Wis. native hit a team-best .363 on the season with a team-high 49 hits. She cranked out nine doubles, three triples, and three homers, while also recording 17 RBIs. She walked 17 times and held an on-base percentage of .426. Moore, a CCIW Hitter of the Week honoree, tallied 15 multi-hit efforts. 

Grubczak, a psychology major, made 21 appearances in the circle for the Green and White, posting an 11-3 record. She threw 89.2 innings on the year, with eight complete games, and compiled a 2.65 earned run average. Grubczak finished the season with 52 strikeouts and recorded a no-hitter at Monmouth, March 23. 

Illinois Wesleyan's consistent DP, Black played in 41 games and made 37 starts. She hit .222 with 22 hits, six doubles, and four RBIs. Black got hot in the final stretch of the season, posting four straight 2-for-4 games. The Springfield, Ill. product led the Titans as she was hit eight times and walked on 11 occasions. 

Turner, a First Team All-CCIW selection at second base for the second straight season, started every game for the Titans. She hit .317 with 38 hits, 20 runs scored, and eight RBIs. Turner recorded six doubles and a homer, while walking seven times. A CCIW Hitter of the Week awardee, she notched nine multi-hit games. 

Rounding out IWU's honorees is Kuhn. The sophomore reeled in First Team All-CCIW status at shortstop and ranked second on the team with a .338 batting average. She recorded 47 hits and scored 28 runs, to go along with eight doubles, three homers, and 16 RBIs. Kuhn ranked second on the team in walks (15) and on-base percentage (.403). 

The Academic All-America team will be voted on and then announced June 6.
