Three Titans named CSCAA Scholar All-Americans

Gilbert honored as first team selection, Fudge and McCauley named to second team

RICHMOND, Va. - Three Titans of the Illinois Wesleyan University swimming and diving team were honored as Scholar All-Americans announced by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), Wednesday, June 29. Senior Ellen Gilbert (Northbrook, Ill.-Glenbrook North) of the women's swimming and diving team was honored as a First-Team Scholar All-American while teammate and freshman Hadley Fudge (Stanford, Ill.-University) was selected to the second team. Fellow Senior Mason McCauley (Deerfield, Ill.-Deerfield) of the men's swimming and diving team also earned a second team distinction.

Fudge earns this distinction for the first time in her career. It is also a first for McCauley to be named to a team, as he was named an honorable mention in the 2019-20 season. Gilbert earns this distinction for the fourth straight year.

To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have earned a minimum GPA of 3.50 and participated in their national championship. For a second team distinction a student-athlete must have also achieved a 3.50 GPA or higher and achieved a "B" time standard for the national championship.

Gilbert, the only College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin female student-athlete to compete at the NCAA Championships this season, completed her psychology degree with a 4.0 GPA this past May. At the NCAA Championships she earned All-American distinction after a top-eight finish in the 200 yard butterfly, touching in a career-best time of 2:02.00. Gilbert was also selected as a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSDIA) Academic All-American for the third time in her career. The Northbrook, Ill. native was named the CCIW Woman of the Year and the Swimming Student Athlete of the Year in her final season as a Titan.

Freshman and psychology major, Fudge, had an impressive inaugural season as a Titan. Fudge capped her first year with an overall GPA of 3.64 to earn this distinction. She made a NCAA B standard time during the 100 yard breaststroke at the CCIW Championships, touching in a time of 1:04.60, where she went on to win the individual title. Including the 100 breast, Fudge earned first-place finishes in the 200 individual medley, 200 backstroke, 400 medley relay, and 400 freestyle relay. Her times in the 200 IM and 100 breast both broke IWU's school record in those events. Fudge's success at the championships earned her CCIW First-Year Student Athlete of the Meet recognition.

McCauley, an English major, finished his final season as a Titan with a 3.87 GPA for the 2021-22 school year. The Deerfield, Ill. native broke five school records and won four events at the CCIW Championships. McCauley produced first-place finishes in the 500 freestyle, one mile, 200 butterfly, and part of a 800 freestyle relay. He broke the school record in the 500 freestyle, one mile, 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, and 800 freestyle relay. McCauley's impressive one mile time of 15:52.58 qualified for the NCAA B standard.
