Women's Golf Places Third at Highly Competitive Texas Cup

Five Titans finish in top-20

PLANO, Texas - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's golf team shot the second-lowest round of the tournament Sunday, March 20, to place third at the Texas Cup in a field that included several nationally ranked teams. The Titans fired a 305, eight shots better than their day one score, to finish with a 36-hole total of 618 at The Courses at Watters Creek.

Leading the way for the Green and White was freshman Jacque O'Neill (Harbor Springs, Mich.-Harbor Springs), who carded a two-over 74 to finish at 151 and tie for fourth. The finish marked the first top-five finish of O'Neill's career and earned her all-tournament honors. Fellow freshman Macy Ludwig (Effingham, Ill.-St. Anthony) tied for 13th with a total of 155. Ludwig shaved five strokes off her opening round score to shoot a three-over 75 in the final round.

Sophomores Lexi Onsrud (Normal, Ill.-University Hgh) and Emma Thorman (Macomb, Ill.-Macomb) carded 78s for the second straight day to place tied for 16th. Also finishing tied for 16th was sophomore Rachel Ducaji (Springfield, Ill.-Sacred Heart-Griffin), who played as an individual. Ducaji turned in the best score of the individual field, with freshman Kylie Hundman (Bloomington, Ill.-Central Catholic) coming in three shots behind her in 23rd (159). 

No. 24 Carthage won the team title with rounds of 305 and 298 to finish with a score of 603. No. 13 Trinity edged IWU for second with a total of 617, while No. 18 UT Dallas and No. 16 Mary Hardin-Baylor rounded out the top-five. Carthage's Adrienne Rohwedder won the tournament at five-over 149. 


With its spring break trip in the rearview mirror, Illinois Wesleyan will return to action at the WashU Spring Invite Sunday-Monday, April 3-4, in St. Louis, Mo.
