Career-Highs Aplenty for Women’s Bowling at Flyer Classic

Atkins sets program-record score of 188

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's bowling team capped off its last regular season three-day long tournament of the 2021-22 campaign Friday-Sunday, Feb. 11-13. The Titans competed at the Flyer Classic hosted by Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill. 

During day one of the competition the Green and White bowled in the baker match format, going head-to-head with Dominican University, Maryville University, Lewis, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The Titans bowled a program-high team score of 156 in game two against Alabama-Birmingham. The score marked the highest since the Green and White put up 147, Feb. 5.

In the traditional format, junior Shea Atkins (Grant Park, Ill.-Bradley-Bourbonnais Community) stood out for the Green and White. The Grant Park, Ill. native bowled a program-high 188 against Quincy University. The junior also registered a total pinfall of 806, a program-high and career-best, beating out her previous 630 total pinfall.

Senior Sarah Buchmann (Wilmette, Ill.-New Trier) also picked up a career-best roll of 157 in the match against Quincy. She added a career-best total pinfall of 620 to beat out her previous best of 559. Junior Alivia Catey (Broadwell, Ill.-Lincoln Community) produced a career-high score of 129, also against Quincy, and grabbed a career-best 554 total pinfall. 

Freshman Oreo Beard (Chicago, Ill.-Gwendolyn) also put up a career-best 122 in the match against Aurora University. 

As a team the Titans bowled a program-record match score of 677 in the duel with Quincy. 

On day three of the invite the Titans competed against Dominican in a best of seven baker series. IWU dropped to 4-1, but claimed its first single game win of the season after rolling a 140 to DU's 127.

IWU is back for a quad tournament Saturday, Feb. 19 before heading into round two of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Tournament March 5-6.
