Chudy Paces Cross Country with All-Region Performance at Midwest Regional Race

Women’s team finished in 11th place, men took 16th

GENEVA, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University women's and men's cross country squads made the trek to Geneva for the Midwest Regional meet, hosted by Aurora University. Both races were held at the Northwestern Medicine Cross Country Course on Saturday, Nov. 12. The women's team competed in the 6k and earned 318 points, good for 11th place. Tackling the 8k course, the men secured 16th place, with 512 points.

On the women's side, Loras' Kassie Parker took home the first-place crown as she bested the field of 207 runners with a time of 21:14.0. Out of the 29 teams that had five finishers, Wartburg claimed the team regional championship with 36 points, while the University of Chicago enjoyed a second-place race as the Maroons generated 45 points.

Sophomore Annalese Chudy (Libertyville, Ill.-Libertyville), who is vying for an individual NCAA Championship berth, completed the course with a clip of 22:40.40, good for 20th and a spot on the all-region team as a result. This time was just eight seconds off of the Libertyville, Ill. native's personal-best mark of 22:32.00 that was earned at the Augustana Invitational on Oct. 15. Freshman Adriana Crabtree (Normal, Ill.-University High) was the second Titan to cross the finish line with a time of 23:47.50, which earned the freshman a 48th-place finish. 

For the men, out of the 231-man field, Wartburg's Christopher Collet won the regional with a time of 25:04.80. Fellow College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin rival, North Central College, went on to claim the team title with 41 points. Wartburg (55 points) and Loras (112 points) rounded out the top-three team places. 

Sophomore Nick Fisch (Woodridge, Ill.-Montini Catholic) was the first Titan to cross the finish line. The sophomore ran the 8k with a mark of 26:47.20, which earned him a 65th place finish in the Midwest Regional. Senior J.D. Barrett (Tuscola, Ill.-Tuscola), who led the regional after the first split, concluded his collegiate career with a time of 27:06.80, good for 76th place.

The Green and White will wait to hear from the NCAA if any IWU student-athletes will qualify for an at-large, individual spot, for the NCAA Championships race. The NCAA Championships are set for Saturday, Nov. 19 in Lansing, Mich. at Forest Akers Golf Course. The official list of qualifiers will be known tomorrow, Nov. 13. Updates will be made to iwusports.com once the information is made available.
