Men’s Track and Field Places Seventh at CCIW Championships

Titans pick up 10 All-CCIW honors

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Illinois Wesleyan University men's track and field team finished seventh at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship meet hosted by Augustana College Saturday, May 8. IWU recorded a total of 10 All-CCIW performances.

The field events led the way for the Green and White, as senior Zach Anderson (Algonquin, Ill.-Westminster Christian) and junior Cole Paraday (Frankfort, Ill.-Lincoln-Way East) each notched multiple all-league honors. Anderson finished fourth in hammer with a toss of 50.52m, while also adding an eighth-place finish in shot put (13.90m). Paraday took third in discus and javelin, registering marks of 46.25m and 51.27m, respectively.

Senior Jake Mahaffey (Plainfield, Ill.-Providence Catholic) placed third in triple jump with a mark of 13.66m. Sophomore Samuel Painter (Litchfield, Ill.-Litchfield) claimed sixth in long jump with a leap of 6.63m. Junior Davis Nguy (Normal, Ill.-Normal Community) claimed third in the decathlon with a career-best total of 5305 points, good for fourth-highest in the IWU record books.

On the track, Keondre Schumacher (Bloomington, Ill.-University High) and Cyrus Clarke (Bronx, N.Y.-Bronx Theatre) secured All-CCIW status. Schumacher raced to a third-place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 11.15, while Clarke crossed the finish line in a season-best 49.99 in the 400m dash to finish seventh.

In the final event of the night, sophomore J.D. Barrett (Tuscola, Ill.-Tuscola) posted a fourth-place finish in the 10,000m run with a time of 32:28.71.

Illinois Wesleyan returns to action next week, May 13-14, at North Central.
