Four Event Titles Highlight Day One of CCIW Track and Field Championship

Women rank second with heptathlon scheduled to conclude tomorrow

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -
Seniors Katie North (Aurora, Ill.-Metea Valley), Kelsey Wyman (Monmouth, Ill.-Monmouth-Roseville), Ayana Blair (Wheeling, Ill.-Wheeling), and junior Rebekah Harden (Tinley Park, Ill.-Lincoln-Way North) claimed individual titles to lead the Illinois Wesleyan University women's track and field team at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championship Friday, May 7, at Augustana College's Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex. Illinois Wesleyan registered a total of 19 All-CCIW performances.


IWU totaled 133.5 points, just behind North Central (181). Millikin sits third with 95 points, followed by Elmhurst (89.5) and Wheaton (89). Carroll ranks sixth with 70 points, while Augie (64), Carthage (53), and North Park (4) round out the team standings, respectively, with heptathlon scheduled to wrap up tomorrow.

North secured the 5000m run title with a time of 18:05.35. Junior Jenna Mirande (Peoria, Ill.-Limestone) placed fourth in the race with a time of 18:39.92.

Wyman led a dominating performance by the Titans in the 400m hurdles. Wyman won the event with a time of 1:03.38, while senior Cora Wilkinson (Verona, Ill.-Seneca) was just on her heels at 1:04.03, her best time of the season, to place second. Junior Katie Vogler (Quincy, Ill.-Quincy) ran a season-best time of 1:05.90 to finish fifth.

Blair claimed the shot put title with a season-best distance of 13.36m. She also turned in her best hammer throw performance of the season, recording a distance of 48.74m to take fifth.

Harden's victory came in the 1500m run, where she crossed the finish line in 4:35.27. Her time ranks as the 10th-best in the country. She also recorded a season-best in the 800m run, taking second with a time of 2:14.63.

In sprints, sophomore Addison Bendery (Chicago, Ill.-Loyola Academy) notched a pair of second-place finishes. She clocked in at 11.91 in the 100m dash, the fourth-best time in Division III this season. Bendery added another runner-up finish in the 200m dash, crossing the finish line in 25.10.

Junior Lexie Dorsey (Mahomet, Ill.-Mahomet-Seymour) secured a runner-up finish in the 10,000m run with a time of 38:02.66. Her time was more than 40 seconds faster than her previous season-best.

Freshman Lauren Wong (Morton, Ill.-Morton) led the Titans in triple jump with a mark of 11.08m to finish runner-up, while Camryn Winterland (Lexington, Ill.-Lexington) and Kinlee Miller (Tucsola, Ill.-Tuscola) finished fourth and seventh, respectively. Winterland posted a season-best mark of 10.90m, and Miller leaped a season-long of 10.34m.

Nicole Walsh registered a distance of 34.53m in the javelin to earn fifth-place, while Blair's season-best of 29.76m was good for 10th. Walsh also posted a season-best in discus with a mark of 38.31m to claim eighth.

Junior Emma Helferich (Monticello, Ill.-Monticello) and Wilkinson placed third and 10th, respectively, in the long jump. Cassandra Crossen (Casper, Wyo.-Natrona County) added an eighth-place finish in pole vault, where she cleared 2.70m.

Illinois Wesleyan returns to action at the Dr. Keeler Invitational hosted by North Central next week, Thursday-Friday, May 13-14.
