BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- The Illinois Wesleyan University women's volleyball team announced its awardwinners for the 2021 campaign at the team's annual banquet Sunday, Dec. 5. Senior
Jessica McCall (Wayne, Ill./Wheaton St. Francis) was voted the team's Most Valuable Player, while sophomore
Faith Washko (Springfield, Ill./Sacred Heart-Griffin), senior
Madi Corey (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East), and sophomore
Ellie Eager (Mendota, Ill./Marquette Academy) took home other awards
The Wayne, Ill. native appeared in 112 sets for the Green and White, en route to First Team All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin honors. She finished the season second on the team with 235 kills and 301 digs, while producing a .152 hitting percentage for the year to go along with 38 blocks. Over the course of the season, McCall accumulated season-highs of 15 kills, three assists, four aces, and 18 digs.
She was selected as the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Player of the Week, Nov. 9, after posting a pair of double-doubles in CCIW Tournament sweeps of fifth-seeded Millikin and second-seeded Carthage. McCall went for 15 kills and 14 digs, hitting a whopping .378 from the back row to send IWU into the tournament championship. She followed that up with a 12-kill, 18-dig double-double against Carthage to secure IWU's first CCIW Tournament Championship since 2018. Finally, the senior was named the CCIW's Offensive "Player of the Week", Oct. 26, after having totaled 35 kills, 27 digs, two blocks, and four aces in leading the Titans to a 2-1 record, Oct. 22-23.
Washko, who was named the recipient of the "Most Improved" award, put together a tremendous second half of the season,which saw her claim the libero role. She led IWU with 329 digs in 25 matches, accumulated 47 assists and 19 service aces over the course of the year. The Springfield, Ill. native notched double-digit dig performances 18 times which included a season-high 41 digs against Mount St. Joseph, September 24. Her strong sophomore season landed her on the All-CCIW Second Team.
Corey garnered the "Most Inspirational Player" award. Corey was named First Team All-CCIW, as well as the CCIW Player of the Year with her team-leading 584 assists over 113 sets played. For the year, she notched 98 kills, 249 digs, and 39 service aces while manufacturing a .139 hitting percentage. She was named CCIW "Player of the Week" twice for her tremendous efforts (Nov. 8 and Oct. 12). The Frankfort, Ill. native saw season-highs of 13 kills, 31 assists, 16 points, five aces, 19 digs, and four total blocks.
Rounding out the awardwinners is Eager, who received the team's Titan Strength and Conditioning award.
Head Coach Kim Nelson-Brown, who was named the CCIW Coach of the Year, awarded letters to 16 student-athletes, 10 of which are set to return in 2022. The complete list of letterwinners can be found by clicking here.
