Olivia Lett had 26 points and junior
Melissa Gardner added 20 as the Titans beat Wis.-Eau Claire, 78-69, on Saturday (Nov. 19) to win the Eau Claire tournament with a 2-0 record.
Lett was chosen as the tournament "Most Valuable Player" and was joined by senior
Brittany Hasselbring on the all-tourney team. Also on the all-tournament team were Sarah Bingea and Ellen Plendl of Eau Claire, Ripon's Erin Lind and Coe's Kayla Wasko.
Hasselbring scored 13 points with four assists against the Blugolds and senior
Amy Burton led the Titans with seven rebounds. The Titans were outrebounded, 36-31.
IWU trailed 53-51with 10:44 to play in the game before going on an eight-point run to grab a 59-53 lead with 6:57 left. The Blugolds got no closer than three the remainder of the contest.
The Titans shot .453 from the field in the game (24 of 53) and made 10 of 25 (.400) 3-point field goal tries. IWU made 20 of 25 from the free throw line (.800). IWU scored 10 points off turnovers compared to five by Eau Claire.
Eau Claire (now 2-1) shot .418 (23 of 55) from the field and made 7 of 19 (.368) from beyond the 3-point arc. The Blugolds shot .762 from the charity stripe (16 of 21).
Bingea scored 18 to lead UW-EC, followed by Nicole Christianson with 15. Callie Halama had 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
IWU heads back to Wisconsin on Wednesday (Nov. 23) for a 6 p.m. contest with Wisconsin-Whitewater.
