Ten IWU Women to Compete in NCAA Indoor Track

Nine Illinois Wesleyan female competitors will participate in the NCAA Division III indoor track and field championships March 12-13 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

Senior Amanda LaRocca (Palatine, Ill., HS) will run in the 55 meter dash and the 55 hurdles. She has Division III's eighth best time in the 55 at 7.16 seconds and the fourth top time in the country in the 55 hurdles at 8.25 seconds. In the 2009 national meet, LaRocca finished third in the 55 and placed fourth in the 55 hurdles.
Sophomore Shavantay Thomas, whose time of 7.19 seconds is the country's 10th best,will also compete in the 55 meter dash.

Seniors Ali McCoy (Irving, Texas, Episcopal School of Dallas) and Mackenzie Clemens (Bloomington, Ill., HS) are in the national meet in the 400 and 800, respectively. McCoy, who was fifth in the 400 last year, has the nation's second top time at 56.65 seconds.
Clemens has a time of 2:13.90 in the 800, the sixth best in 2010. Last year she was fourth in the national meet in the 800.

Sophomore Lauren Alpert (Park Ridge, Maine South HS) qualified in the 400 meter dash with a time of 57.80 seconds, 17th best in the nation,and will also be in the long jump. Her distance of 18 feet-5 inches is ninth in Division III.

Alpert, Mackenzie Clemens and McCoy join sophomore Jessica Christy (Springfield, Sacred Heart Griffin HS) in the 4x400 relay. The IWU time of 3:53.67 is third lowest in Division III this winter. The 2009 IWU 4x400 team was second in the national meet.

Seniors Ashley Heilingoetter (Fox River Grove, Carnel HS) and Kerry Devitt (Tower Lakes, Carmel HS) will team with freshmen Tara Clemens (Bloomington, Ill. HS) and Lauren Rock (Madison, Wis., James Madison Memorial HS) on the distance medley relay team with the ninth best qualifying time of 11:59.33.

The Titan women were the 2008 indoor national champions and have placed fourth in 2009 and 2006; sixth in 2004; eighth in 2000; and 10th in 2007.
