IWU's Krishock to Play in USA/Mexico All-Star Game

Illinois Wesleyan senior offensive tackle Ray Krishock (Wheaton, Ill., St. Francis HS) has been selected to play for Team Stars & Stripes against the CONADEIP All Stars from Mexico in the 2010 Tazón de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) on Saturday, December 18 at the Tec de Monterrey Stadium in Toluca, Mexico.

A four-year letterman and starter, Krishock was named to first team of the 2010 all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin squads after being named second team in 2009. He was the 2007 team's “Most Valuable Freshman” as he broke into the starting lineup mid-year.

A risk management major at Illinois Wesleyan, he is the son of Ray and Ali Krishock of Wheaton, Ill.

Former La Salle, Delaware Valley College and Widener head coach Bill Manlove will coach Team Stars & Stripes and has selected a 44-man roster from players nominated by head coaches at NCAA Division III colleges and universities. Manlove and his returning staff received almost 200 player nominations to kick off the selection process.

In addition to Illinois Wesleyan, 21 other colleges from a total of 12 states are currently represented on the Team Stars & Stripes roster: Augustana (Ill.), Central, Crown, Dickinson, Grinnell, Grove City, John Carroll, Kalamazoo, LaGrange, Loras, North Central, Ohio Northern, Pomona-Pitzer, St. Olaf, Thomas More, Trine, Union, Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Wartburg, Wesley, and Willamette.

In addition to practicing for the game at the stadium known as La Congeladora, or The Freezer, the traveling group of 44 players, seven coaches and seven support staff will enjoy cultural and educational visits to local attractions such as the Aztec Pyramids of Teotihuacan before facing the December 18 game.

Last year Team Stars and Stripes suffered a 24-12 loss to the Tec Monterrey All-Stars in the Tazon de Estrellas, despite a rousing fourth quarter comeback attempt to overturn a 17-point deficit at the Tec de Monterrey Campus Estado de Mexico.

The Mexican team will be selected from the newly formed CONADEIP League, a national conference of private schools including the Monterrey Tec campuses. Tec is the most notable private university and high school system in Mexico, with dozens of campuses scattered around the country, and its base in the city of Monterrey. The 'Borregos' dominate the American football scene each year at every level; however, they were recently defeated by UDLA-University de Las Americas, for the National Championship.

The 50-man roster is made up of players from eight different schools including 19 players from Aztecas UDLAP, 16 from Borregos MTY, 11 from Borregoes TOL, six players from Borregos CEM, and two players from Borregos CCM, Borregos PUE, Borregos CSF and Jaguares UR. The average height of the home team is 5 feet-10 inches and weight is 211 pounds.

Playing on foreign soil to represent their university on the football field is a familiar prospect for many on the Team Stars & Stripes roster who have undertaken journeys to Europe organized by Global Football earlier in their college football careers. "The appeal of representing your college overseas is something special," said Team Stars & Stripes general manager Patrick Steenberge. "Those players who have traveled to foreign countries before were eager to repeat the experience and are excited to be making Mexico their latest football destination."
